The internet presents an opportunity to tell almost everyone in the world about your research, including peers who can learn from you, companies that might want to adapt your research results for commercial use, scientists who will evaluate your grant applications, and perhaps even your future employer. Yet, despite these potential benefits most researchers continue to imagine that caring about one’s online presence is a waste of time
In the fourth Peer Recognized book, I will show you how to continue to be a productive researcher while building your recognition on the internet using a four-step approach:
- Set an objective for your online activities.
- Define your target audience.
- Select the channels that will best reach this audience in order to achieve your objective.
- Create engaging content that provides value for both you and your audience.

This book got left slightly behind since I was rushing to finish the book No.5. When the time is right, I will come back to this.
The Peer Recognized book series
Eventually, there will be six books in the Peer Recognized book series, each of which will focus on one of the primary academic communication skills that will help to build an academic career. As you can see in the figure, the books are arranged in a sequence that reflects the needs at the different stages in an academic career. Depending on your career stage, choose which one to read.
Online communication is described in the fourth Peer Recognized book and you already saw what to expect from it. Here is more information about the other five books in the series:
